First attested as Blariaco around 365. Derived from Gallo-Roman Latin Blariacum, in turn a derivation from the personal name Blarius or Blarus suffixed with -acum. Compare Bunnik, Cuijk, Geverik, Lopik, Maurik, Mook, Niftrik, Odijk, Varik, Woezik and Fellerich.
