[edit]From Nazarite + -ship, a calque of Hebrew נזירות (nzirút, “asceticism, monkhood”), from נזיר (nazír, “nazarite, monk, ascetic”) + ־וּת (-út, “-ness, -ism, -ity, -hood”), from נִזַּר (nizár, “to separate”).
