[edit]New Latin, from Sinhalese මුස්සැන්ද (mussænda, “Mussaenda frondosa”).
The first appearance as a scientific name was in Species Plantarum by C. Linnaeus,[1] but it is precedented by a mention by Paul Hermann in his Musaeum Zeylanicum.[2]
