For 𨃅子
[edit]@RcAlex36 I noticed that you sort of fused 𨃅子 with 跛子. I was just wondering why, because in dialects like Wuhan and Liuzhou with have both 𨃅子 and 跛子 in 現代漢語方言大詞典, with different pronunciation, it seems like it makes sense that they're different. @Justinrleung Tagging you here as well, in case you have thoughts. --Mar vin kaiser (talk) 13:41, 19 December 2020 (UTC)
- @Mar vin kaiser: I was trying to be consistent because in Cantonese it's written as 跛 when it's the same word as 𨃅 in Southwestern Mandarin. It's sort of the similar to the issue at Module talk:zh/data/dial-syn/剛才. @Justinrleung, what do you think? RcAlex36 (talk) 13:54, 19 December 2020 (UTC)
- @Mar vin kaiser, RcAlex36: Yeah, this is one is another tricky one. Most dialects that don't differentiate the two use 跛 (exception would be Xiang), but those that do differentiate the two would use 𨃅 for /pai/ and 跛 for /po/. It depends on how we want to think about this - should we be dealing with orthography dialect-internally or cross-dialectally. For the modules, it might be best to have a cross-dialectal mindset, in which case we might have to treat dialect-internal forms as possibly different pronunciations of the "same" word (in that they are probably doublets). So in this case, I'd be okay with conflating 𨃅 and 跛 into 跛, at least in the module. — justin(r)leung { (t...) | c=› } 14:06, 19 December 2020 (UTC)
- @Justinrleung: What about the entry 𨃅子? If they're gonna be fused together, the Mandarin pronunciation there should be placed with 跛子, right? --Mar vin kaiser (talk) 14:16, 19 December 2020 (UTC)
- @Mar vin kaiser: Are you thinking about putting the pronunciation bāizi at 跛子? I guess we could, but it does seem like this could be problematic. @RcAlex36, what do you think? — justin(r)leung { (t...) | c=› } 07:56, 20 December 2020 (UTC)
- @Justinrleung: bāizi isn't the pronunciation of 跛子 sanctioned by 現代漢語詞典. If we are to put bāizi at 跛子, we have to indicate that the written form 𨃅子 is used for that pronunciation. RcAlex36 (talk) 08:16, 20 December 2020 (UTC)
