小雨, 細雨 vs 毛毛雨

[edit]

@Mar vin kaiser I think these might merit two different modules. 珠江三角洲方言詞彙對照 makes a distinction between the two, for example. @RcAlex36, what do you think? — justin(r)leung (t...) | c=› } 05:32, 21 February 2021 (UTC)Reply

@Justinrleung: Sorry, I'm basing it now on the English translation, which just means "drizzle". I wasn't sure if there was a slight difference in meaning. --Mar vin kaiser (talk) 05:38, 21 February 2021 (UTC)Reply
@Mar vin kaiser: 毛毛雨 is probably more specific, and 小雨 and 細雨 are probably used in contrast to 大雨. It is difficult to make the distinction only with the English, and I'm not sure of what the difference is myself. — justin(r)leung (t...) | c=› } 05:41, 21 February 2021 (UTC)Reply
@Justinrleung: I'm looking at the definition of 濛濛雨 in the dictionary of Wu dialects, and they define it as "毛毛雨, 細雨", so I guess it's still easily thought of as the same thing. --Mar vin kaiser (talk) 05:44, 21 February 2021 (UTC)Reply
@Mar vin kaiser: Okay, but I'm not sure if I should also be including the words for 小雨 from 珠江三角洲方言詞彙對照 here as well then. You do have 水仔 for Taishan, which is put under 小雨 in 珠江三角洲方言詞彙對照. — justin(r)leung (t...) | c=› } 05:45, 21 February 2021 (UTC)Reply
@Justinrleung: Looking at the entire thing, my theory is that there is simply a group of terms related to 小雨 that have a diminutive connotation, and the other terms related to 毛毛雨 have a thin or slender connotation, but they seem to both refer to the same thing, I think? At least that's what I see lol. --Mar vin kaiser (talk) 05:54, 21 February 2021 (UTC)Reply
@Mar vin kaiser: 普通话基础方言基本词汇集 also makes the distinction between the two. In 现代汉语规范词典, 毛毛雨 is specifically defined as 雨滴极细小、形不成雨丝的雨, whereas 小雨 is 降水量较小的雨. — justin(r)leung (t...) | c=› } 05:59, 21 February 2021 (UTC)Reply
@Justinrleung: Hmmm...I see the distinction, but I wonder if it's feasible to split the modules, because for several dialect sources, there seems to be no distinction between the two? --Mar vin kaiser (talk) 06:03, 21 February 2021 (UTC)Reply
@Mar vin kaiser: It is tricky. If they don't explicitly use the word 毛毛雨 or 小雨, it's going to be hard to decide where the word would go. — justin(r)leung (t...) | c=› } 06:05, 21 February 2021 (UTC)Reply
@Justinrleung, Mar vin kaiser: Hanyu Da Cidian and Guoyu Cidian both define 細雨 as 小雨. 毛毛雨 is defined by Hanyu Da Cidian as "指水滴極細小、不能形成雨點的雨。亦泛稱很小的雨", while Guoyu Cidian defines it as "密而細的小雨". So they are slightly different? RcAlex36 (talk) 12:30, 21 February 2021 (UTC)Reply
@RcAlex36: Yeah, I think we all agree that they are slightly different. I think the problem now is whether splitting the module is indeed feasible...as I said up in the conversation. --Mar vin kaiser (talk) 13:31, 21 February 2021 (UTC)Reply
