Philippine Hokkien

[edit]

@Mlgc1998 I was looking at your edits here and I'm curious 1.) why you changed 真正 to 真誠, and 2.) where you heard 有夠 used in Metro Manila cuz I've personally never heard it used to mean "very". Thanks! Mar vin kaiser (talk) 15:25, 1 February 2025 (UTC)Reply

@Mar vin kaiser I can't fully remember but I think in 1) I first saw listed there in Quanzhou before and remembered hearing  / (chiâⁿ) used in ph as well, then I later might've read or saw somewhere that it might've been a Quanzhou thing, so I thought it might've been inaccurate before to have put in 真正 (chin-chiàⁿ) and it must've been 真誠 / 真诚 (chin-chiâⁿ) that I heard before, tho I don't often hear these frequently anyways, so at this point, I'm not totally sure of which one it really is. For 2) 有夠 / 有够 (ǔ-kàu), it's based on perspective, we don't hear this that often as well but usually it means "enough" but sometimes I remembered instances where it meant both literally "enough" but also figuratively remarking in awe that something was "really" <adj> like (súi),  / (kín),  / (kûiⁿ), etc. like I think I remember instances before someone asking if something was 有夠?ǔ-kàu súi bô? ("really pretty or not?" / "pretty enough or not?"). It depends on interpretation on some instances, but not all instances so it's not that used often.
