Benedictive middle 2pl

@Jeaucques Quœure Hi, I see you changed this ending from -सीढ्वम् to -सीध्वम्, but the retroflex ढ was definitely intended, because that's what Whitney gives at §924. But given that Whitney indicates that there's some discussion about this (and this whole benedictive is simply very rare in practice), maybe you have another reference that says it should have ध instead. I don't think that can be a good reason.

I see that at https://greenmesg.org/sanskrit_online_tools/sanskrit_verb_conjugation_tables.php, some middle benedictive verbs have -षीध्वम्, and others -षीढ्वम्. I think this is according to the rule mentioned by Whitney at §226 c. But Whitney is very sceptical of this rule because there is no evidence for it. And now I see that the same site also gives forms with -इध्वम् for the iṣ-aorist which is clearly wrong historically.

It's debatable whether the middle forms should even be given as: "The precative middle is virtually unknown in the whole later literature, not a single occurrence of it having been brought to light." Exarchus (talk) 16:46, 17 August 2024 (UTC)

Maybe such forms on -इध्वम् can be considered correct in Neo-Sanskrit, but then there would need to be a debate on whether those should be included. Exarchus (talk) 16:53, 17 August 2024 (UTC)
