Etymology

First attested as Mid-Buul in 1840. Compound of mid (middle, mid-) and a local shortening of the toponym Budel. Named for its position midway between Budel and Budel-Schoot. For the syncope of intervocalic -d-, compare weder / weer, moeder / moer, and so forth.
