MediaWiki talk:Searchmenu-new
MediaWiki talk:Searchmenu-new is counter productive
[edit]This is a component that is shown at the most common point of failure (missing entry). In usability terms it is asking users to contribute - on an entry they were looking up, which means they don't know it well enough to define themselves. I.E. they will have to do research and overcome the problem of wiki format conventions.
Unfortunately instead of offering a minimal effort solution in most cases they will try the wizard and get the wrong templates and once they understand it is irrelevant it will remain as a long term reminder on the search page. It should either be disabled or you should allow users to expand it for more languages. — This comment was unsigned.
- The wizard can in fact be used for more language: you just need to specify the language code for your language. —Internoob (Disc•Cont) 21:59, 23 June 2011 (UTC)
{{new en verb past part}}
addition
[edit]I've created one more template for helping adding new entries. Its purpose is intended for past participles of English verbs. I recently had a need for one such entry ([[pinky sworn]]) and so I thought it might be handy in the future. Please add it here. Tnx. --biblbroks дискашн 20:14, 23 September 2012 (UTC)
2 improvements
[edit]@Erutuon I suggest we improve the top part to this:
See whether another page links to $1. Or, try searching the site using DuckDuckGo or Google.
You may create the page "$1" on a blank page, request its creation, or create it using the New Entry Creator!

Language picker doesn't work
[edit]When I try to select another language, the console shows the error ReferenceError: showPreloads is not defined. --Gausie (talk) 15:10, 2 September 2019 (UTC)
- I tried searching for it on this site but did not find much. Could it be entirely missing and need to be added/written in MediaWiki:common.js?--So9q (talk) 15:48, 2 September 2019 (UTC)
Arabic
[edit]Hello, I created this template: Template:ar-nogomatch and then I realized that it should be added here. Can an admin please add it here to language picker the dropdown? LinguisticMystic (talk) 09:41, 22 June 2020 (UTC)
Add Yiddish to the dropdown
[edit]https://en.wiktionary.org/wiki/Template:new_yi_noun and https://en.wiktionary.org/wiki/Template:new_yi_verb_infl have existed for a while but we need Yiddish on the dropdown to support them! Could an admin sort that out? Gausie (talk) 15:54, 2 September 2020 (UTC)
