[edit]From Ancient Greek Μαργιανή (Margianḗ), of Iranian origin; compare modern Persian مرو, Middle Persian [Term?] (/Marv/), Old Persian 𐎶𐎠𐎼𐎦𐎿 (Marguš), Avestan 𐬨𐬊𐬎𐬭𐬫- (moury-), Arabic Marwazi, all possibly related to the region Marhasi, from Akkadian 𒈥𒄩𒅆𒆠 (Marhashi).[1]
