Etymology

Potentially attested as post in 1388, attested with certainty as lutkepost in 1472. Calque of West Frisian Lytsepost, a compound of Old Frisian lītik (small) and post (simple bridge, gangboard across a ditch). The element luttel was added to distinguish the settlement from Buitenpost.
