Calque of Mandarin 夏家店下層文化 / 夏家店下层文化 (Xiàjiādiàn xiàcéng wénhuà), from 夏家店 (Xiàjiādiàn, Xiajiadian) +‎ 下層 / 下层 (xiàcéng, lower strata) +‎ 文化 (wénhuà, culture), with Xiajiadian being the location of the type site, which was discovered at a lower level than that of the Upper Xiajiadian culture. By surface analysis, lower +‎ Xiajiadian +‎ culture.
