[edit]Calque of Mandarin 夏家店下層文化 / 夏家店下层文化 (Xiàjiādiàn xiàcéng wénhuà), from 夏家店 (Xiàjiādiàn, “Xiajiadian”) + 下層 / 下层 (xiàcéng, “lower strata”) + 文化 (wénhuà, “culture”), with Xiajiadian being the location of the type site, which was discovered at a lower level than that of the Upper Xiajiadian culture. By surface analysis, lower + Xiajiadian + culture.
Proper noun
[edit]- (archaeology) An archaeological culture found throughout southeastern Inner Mongolia, northern Hebei and western Liaoning in China, who thrived from approximately 2200 to 1600 BCE.
