Etymology

[edit]

From Ancient Greek λοβός (lobós, lobe) + Ancient Greek πούς (poús, foot) +‎ -ia.

Proper noun

[edit]

Lobopodia f

  1. A taxonomic phylum within the superphylum Ecdysozoa – soft-bodied, marine worm-like fossil panarthropods; lobopodians.

Usage notes

[edit]

There are a few concepts that use this name, differing by their circumscription. When this grouping refers only to the soft-bodied, marine worm-like extinct panarthropods, and not the other panarthropods (arthropods, onychophorans, and tardigrades), which evolved from lobopodian ancestors, it is paraphyletic.
