[edit]From Old Norse Líðandisnes. First part from Líðandi, from the present participle of líða. According to E. Heide, the name refers to geographical features of the coast, where Lindesnes is the border between a complex coast line in the west and a easy navigatable coast line in the east. Last part from nes (“headland”).
