[edit]Etymology
[edit]The first part Løkken is the name of one of the places, where the first mining production took place. Similar to Norwegian Nynorsk lykkje - a fenced farming area, usually for livestock. Pronunciation
[edit]Proper noun
[edit]- a town in Orkland municipality, Trøndelag, Norway. The town was a big copper mining place in 1654-1853 and 1891-1962. A pilgrim path is going through the town from the Dovre mountains down to the Nidaros cathedral.
Usage notes
[edit]Often is shortened into Løkken. Surrounding villages (such as Bjørnli, Midtskogen, Svinsøy and now abandoned Merkeshaugen) are usually considered as parts of this town, but the term Løkken is often referring to the centrum of the town (former Vavold farm; the original Løkken-toponym was located on the western side of this farm).
Preposition: på.
