Koup

From Wiktionary, the free dictionary

Luxembourgish

[edit]

Etymology

[edit]

Belongs to the group of words for rounded objects with k-/h- + rounded vowel + labial. Perhaps a variant of Kopp (hill), from northern Middle High German kuppe, but the words of this group are so varied that a precise origin is hard to ascertain. Compare also Kapp (head), Hauf (bonnet), German Haufen (heap), Dutch kuip (tub), and more distantly Czech kupa (heap).
