Usage notes
[edit]- Klassenarbeiten are the most formal kind of exams in German schools. They are usually announced some time in advance and their number per semester and subject is fixed (at school level and, with regard to minima and maxima, at state level). They also have a fixed influence on a pupil's mark, typically 25 percent per exam. Additional, less formal exams are called Test, Abfrage, or the like.
- From year 11 onwards, Klassenarbeiten are usually called Klausuren instead, which is also the term used at universities.
