[edit]Etymology
[edit]First attested as casterloe in 1409. Possibly a compound of Latin castra (“encampment”) + lo (“clearing of trees”), though this is deemed unlikely by the lack of archeological evidence of a Roman presence. Another possibility could be Middle Dutch *caster (“chestnut tree”) + lo (see *kastannjā).
