Etymology

By surface analysis, Hvite or hwit +‎ ridh. First attested in 1399.[1]

  • First half may be Hvite (a male name). It may also be hviter (white); the reason is unknown.[1]
  • Second half might be related with ryd (clearing). It may also be related with rör (cairn); if so, it might refer to the Vittaryd labyrinth.[1]
