Pronunciation

[edit]
  • IPA(key): /ˈhɔt.dɔk/, /ˈhɔtɔk/
  • Audio:(file)
  • Hyphenation: Hot‧dog

Noun

[edit]

Hotdog m or n (strong, genitive Hotdogs, plural Hotdogs)

  1. (food) An American-style hot dog.

Usage notes

[edit]
  • A sausage in a bread roll is a common German snack. However, the German version is not usually referred to as a Hotdog, but simply as a Wurst or Bratwurst, or specifically a Wurst/Bratwurst im Brötchen. The German version uses a different kind of bread roll and uses mustard as the sole topping (maximally also ketchup). The sausage is predominantly grilled rather than cooked or steamed.
