Two possible origins:

• Borrowed from Czech Holan, Holaň, Holáň, all nicknames from holy (“naked, bare”).
• Borrowed from Norwegian Holan, habitational surname from several minor places, ultimately from Old Norse hóll (“round hill, mound”).
