Heelsum
Appearance
Dutch
[edit]Etymology
[edit]First attested as in helessem around 1160. Compound of Old Dutch Hali (a personal name) and heem (“home, settlement”). The presence of a genetive -s- in the oldest attestations indicates that a derivation from Middle Dutch helle (“incline”) is impossible.
