- Borrowed from Arabic حَنْضَل (ḥanḍal, “colocynth”), a dialectal merger of حَنْظَل (ḥanẓal, “colocynth”). This surname is particularly found in Honduras.
- Borrowed from Norwegian Handal, a habitational surname from any of several farmsteads in Norway.
