Etymology
[edit]From a lost common noun (vila, agro, castro, busto vel sim) and the name of a 5th-10th centuries landowner, Late Latin Viliefredi, genitive of the personal name Viliefredus; from a Suevic or Gothic personal name, from Proto-Germanic *Wiljafriþuz, from Proto-Germanic *wiljô (“will”) and *friþuz (“peace”).[1]
