Etymology

First attested as greflichemer buerscap in 1340. Compound of Old Dutch Gravilo (a personal name) with collectivising suffix -ing- and heem (home, settlement). The second component was later reinterpreted as kamp (enclosed pasture). Compare Greffeling, Breklenkamp, Denekamp, Gölenkamp, Haftenkamp and Höcklenkamp.
