[edit]Attested in 1201 as Hermeriz; from Late or Medieval Latin Hermerici, in origin a Germanic personal name expressed as a Latin genitive, so meaning "Hermeric's property"; from Suevic (it's the same name of one Suevic king) or Gothic, from Proto-Germanic *Ermunarīks, from *ermunaz (“whole”) + *rīks (“king”).[1]
