[edit]Attested in 1140 as Ermoriz;[1] from Late Latin Hermerici,[2] in origin a Germanic personal name expressed as a Latin genitive, so meaning "Hermeric's property"; from Latin-Suevic Hermericus, from Proto-Germanic *Ermunarīks, from *ermunaz (“whole”) + *rīks (“king”).[3]
