Etymology

First attested as de duizend Morgen in 1838-1857. Derived from duizend (thousand) and morgen (land measurement). One thousand morgen corresponds to roughly 850 hectares. Compare Honderd en Tien Morgen, Tiengemeten, Twaalfmorgen and Zevenmorgen.
