Doorning

Dutch
[edit]Etymology
[edit]First attested as Doorning in 1936. Likely a compound of doorn (“thorn, thorn bush”) and eng (“agricultural land belonging to a village”). A derivation from Old Dutch thorn (“thorn, thorn bush”) with collectivising suffix -ingô- is less likely. Originally the name of a large section of farmland.
