Dutch
[edit]Etymology
[edit]Referenced in Latin by Willibrord as a river in Texandria (roughly, Brabant and its vicinity) by the name Duthmala (727 CE). Elsewhere it is attested as Dutmala around the same time. The second element is Old Dutch mala (“dale, lowland”) (found in placenames, compare Ezemaal, Watermaal, etc.); the first is uncertain. This etymology is incomplete. You can help Wiktionary by elaborating on the origins of this term.
