Hawaiian forms that are rarely found in general use and may not be recognized by some native speakers; and serve as alternative forms of the same terms in general use.

To categorize into this category, use {{rare form of|haw|...}} or {{rare spelling of|haw|...}}.

If the term is not merely a variant (alternative form) of a term in general use, it should be placed in [[Category:Hawaiian rare terms]] instead; to do this, use {{tlb|haw|rare}} (template tlb, not lb), which should typically be placed next to the headword. If only some senses of the term are rare, it should be categorized instead in [[Category:Hawaiian terms with rare senses]], using {{lb|haw|rare}} (template lb instead of tlb), which should typically be placed next to the individual sense.

Rare forms should be distinguished from uncommon forms, which are not common but used enough to be generally recognized.
