From Medieval Latin Guestremiri, Uestremiri, genitive of Guestremirus, Uestremirus,[1] from a Suevic or Gothic personal name, from a compound of Proto-Germanic *westraz (western) and *mērijaz (great; famous). Compare also Cristimil.
