Dutch
[edit]Etymology
[edit]Attested as Boerenhol in 1838-1857. Potentially derived from the plural form of boer (“farmer”) and hol (“lair, hole”). Although the second element is often interpreted as Zealandic nol (“remnant of a levee”), there is no indication going by the oldest attestations that the toponym actually contains nol.
