[edit]First attested as de slusa in 1294-1295. Compound of blauw (“blue”) (derived from the hydronym Blauwe Wetering) and sluis (“lock, sluice”). Compare Blauwe Sluis, Rode Sluis, Zwartsluis and Zwartsluisje.
