[edit]From Bay State, a nickname name given to Massachusetts due to the geographical features of Massachusetts Bay, Cape Cod Bay, Buzzards Bay and Narragansett Bay, + -er.

[edit]“Bay Stater” is the official designation of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts[1] but the federal government style guide prefers “Massachusettsan”.[2]
