[edit]In its modern form pertaining to Bottich (“tub”), but not directly related to it. Instead from Middle Low German bödeker with the Low German suffix -ker from böde (“barrel”) (compare Bütt); in early modern German (East Central German) adapted to the High German consonantism as botticher (at that time possibly already associated with Bottich).
