Spelling

[edit]

Why is it spelled both Siouan and Souian? 71.66.97.228 21:44, 26 September 2010 (UTC)Reply

Souian is the WRONG spelling. Please correct all spellings of "Souian" to "Siouan." — Stevey7788 03:29, 27 September 2010 (UTC)Reply

Pawnee is not Siouan

[edit]

It's Caddoan 96.228.5.177 16:23, 4 October 2010 (UTC)Reply

We know. Pawnee is provided for those interested in the hypothetical Macro-Siouan family, which includes Caddoan. —Stephen (Talk) 22:28, 4 October 2010 (UTC)Reply
If you compare Pawnee and Crow, you'll see a lot of similarities. See the respective Wikipedia articles on Caddoan/Siouan/Macro-Siouan languages. — Stevey7788 00:18, 5 October 2010 (UTC)Reply

Catawba

[edit]

Is there enough data for Catawba to add a section (even a few words)? 71.66.97.228 05:42, 10 November 2010 (UTC)Reply

osage

[edit]

@Stevey7788 Hi

The quality of the osage entries is particularly poor. I see that they come partially from LaFlesche's dictionary which is a mix of osage and Omaha - the language of LaFlesche. On the French wiktionary you will find real osage forms taken from the works of Quintero [1], unfortunately I did not try to create a swadesh list, and so it does not match your list, see also [2] and also proto-Siouan pages [3]. The Dakota form for big is also false, as it lacks aspiration [4]. Dhegiha (talk) 22:20, 11 October 2015 (UTC)Reply
