From anu (“or”) +‎ seme (“what”), inspired by German oder. Coined by Sonja Lang in 2003.

Interjection

   (literally, “You come or what?”)

   Synonym: ala (used between a reduplicated verb)

Usage notes

Some speakers consider anu seme to be a weaker question marker than the verb ala verb construction, while others deem them equivalent.
