Appendix:Hebrew patterns/קָטֹל

From Wiktionary, the free dictionary

Hebrew

[edit]

Etymology

[edit]

From Proto-Semitic *qatul-. Not to be confused with קָטוֹל, which goes back to *qatāl-, but happened to develop a similar form.

Adjective

[edit]

קטול / קָטׂל (katól) (feminine קטולה / קְטֻלָּה, masculine plural קטולים / קְטֻלִּים, feminine plural קטולות / קְטֻלּוֹת)

Primarily used for forming adjectives.

Note

[edit]
  • מָתוֹק resists the usual pattern by keeping a long vowel instead of geminating the following consonant, i.e. we have מְתוּקָה instead of *מְתֻקָּה.
