[edit]From Middle English Andever, Andeafara, from Old English Andefera (“Andover”); possibly from Old English Ande + ēa + fara (literally “farer over the river Ande”) or from Old English Ande + ōfer (literally “[town situated on the] bank of the river Ande”).
