German
[edit]Etymology
[edit]Principally from altertümeln + -er. In the rare sense directly from Altertum + -ler, but with possible disparaging allusion to the former (which makes it difficult to separate them).
Pronunciation

- someone who imitates the past, an archaizer
- (rare, mostly either derogatory or erroneous) a scholar of the antiquities (ancient history), an antiquarian
