[edit]Pseudo-Ancient Greek, seemingly formed as ἀλκή (alkḗ, “strength”) + -ιμος (-imos, “-ible”). Compare Alcēsimarchus (a name Plautus uses in Cistellaria), also Greek ἄλκιμος (álkimos), Ἄλκηστις (Álkēstis).
