[edit]Pseudo-Ancient Greek, seemingly formed as ἀλκή (alkḗ, “strength”) + -ιμος (-imos, “-ible”) + ἀρχός (arkhós, “leader”). Compare Alcēsimus (a name Plautus uses in Casina), also Greek ἄλκιμος (álkimos), Ἄλκηστις (Álkēstis).
