Borrowed from Hindustani اَحْمَد آباد (aḥmad ābād) / अहमदाबाद (ahmadābād). Named after the ruler of the Gujarat Sultanate, Ahmad Shah I (reigned 1411 - 1442). Romanized form Ahmed +‎ -abad.
