[edit]Named after John Abernethy, English surgeon, + New Latin, from Ancient Greek σάρκωμα (sárkōma, “fleshy growth”), from σαρκόω (sarkóō, “become fleshy”), from σάρξ (sárx, “flesh”).[1]
