Either from Old Korean 乎尸矣 (*-woltoy) or Old Korean 乎隱矣 (*-wontoy), both of which are attested in 12-13th century Gugyeol sources.[1]

  2. suffix used to introduce a quotation.
    • 1447, 석보상절 (釋譜詳節), volume 6:
      내〮 ᄉᆞ라ᇰ호〮ᄃᆡ〮 어누〮 藏ㅅ 金이〮ᅀᅡ〮 마〮치〮 ᄭᆞᆯ이〮려뇨〮 ᄒᆞ〮노〮ᅌᅵ다〮
      I am wondering, "Which storage house's gold would cover it perfectly?"
