Suffix
[edit]슴다 • (-seumda)
- (colloquial) Colloquial version of 습니다 (seumnida), a declarative suffix in the 하십시오체 (hasipsioche, “formal polite”) speech level.
- (Northern Hamgyong, Yanbian, Yukjin) the declarative suffix in the 하십시오체 (hasipsioche, “formal polite”) speech level.
Usage notes
[edit]In parts of Hamgyong and Yanbian, this 슴다 (-seumda) form essentially replaces 습니다 (-seumnida) as the declarative suffix in the formal polite speech level. Also, among younger Yukjin speakers both in Yanbian and North Korea it seems to be replacing the traditional 슴둥 (-seumdung) and 슴두 (-seumdu) suffixes.
