Suffix

[edit]

슴둥 (-seumdung)

  1. (Yukjin, some dialects of Russia and Yanbian) Interrogative suffix for sentence-final verbs in the 하십시오체 (hasipsioche, “formal polite”) speech level.
    슴둥?
    meokseumdung?
    Is he eating?

Usage notes

[edit]
  • The suffix causes the root (l) elide when in the form ㅁ둥 (-mdung): 암둥 (amdung, does he know?)
  • In North Korea, it's use appears to be largely restricted to elderly speakers of the Yukjin dialect.
