Usage notes

[edit]
  • The suffix is added to the stem of the word (i.e. minus its final vowel, if any).
  • The suffix is often added to ending-stressed words. The stress is always drawn onto the preceding syllable.
  • Unstressed e normally becomes ё when stressed.
  • In some cases, a suffix is dropped, as in со́лнышко (sólnyško) from со́лнце (sólnce).
  • The normal plural is irregular -́ышки.
