Originally from -ина (-ina) added to adjectives ending in -овый (-ovyj) or -ово́й (-ovój); later extracted out as its own suffix.

  1. suffix appended to nouns, adjectives, etc. to form nouns of various sorts, generally referring to more specific objects than the base lemma
    кле́йкий (kléjkij, sticky) + ‎-ови́на (-ovína) → ‎клейкови́на (klejkovína, gluten)
    пуп (pup, navel) + ‎-ови́на (-ovína) → ‎пупови́на (pupovína, umbilical cord)
    шту́ка (štúka, thing) + ‎-о́вина (-óvina) → ‎штуко́вина (štukóvina, thingamajig, widget (colloquial))
